Intriguing debate about whether those share icons on sites for Digg, Twitter, etc. do any good. I have to say I’ve never once used them, though I share the old-fashioned way via copy-paste all the time, as I did with this Poynter post.
There’s something to be said for minimizing distracting junk on web sites, and most news sites are an embarrassment of such crap. Newsrooms need to take a hard look at their button analytics. You want people to share your work? Make good stuff. Period. Anything — anything — that distracts from your great journalism belongs on the trash heap.
